Last week, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) announced its new 2023 board members. SEIA is a leading solar and storage trade group that supports legislative, trade, and regulatory policy for the clean energy future. Darleen D. DeRosa, Stem’s Vice President of Policy and Regulatory Affairs, will serve as an At-large Director on SEIA’s board. Darleen leads Stem’s federal and state policy strategy in North America. Previously, she led policy at Landis+Gyr and PG&E, focusing on grid modernization and smart energy technologies.
Stem joined SEIA in 2022 and supports SEIA’s Solar+ Decade mission to expand the solar industry from 3.7% of the US electricity mix to 30% by 2030. This aligns with Stem’s mission to help maximize the economic, environmental, and resiliency value of energy assets through our leading AI/digital platform. We believe that energy storage is a critical enabling technology to integrate solar and other intermittent resources into our energy system while maintaining grid reliability and flexibility.
SEIA played an important leadership role in advocating for the passage of the historic Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) and continues to provide critical industry perspective and input as the Treasury Department develops guidance for IRA’s implementation. As this process proceeds, Stem is helping its customers and partners evaluate IRA’s Standalone Storage Incentive Tax Credit (ITC) and Solar Production Tax Credit (PTC) as we enter a new era in renewable energy.
Stem’s IRA Map is a new ready resource to quickly identify geographies that we believe are prime for solar retrofit projects and stacked tax credits. Developers and asset owners can use this map to focus their outreach efforts while partnering with Stem. The sweeping IRA legislation also includes significant incentives for transportation electrification, with opportunities to optimize asset categories such as EV charging stations, which are often paired with solar and energy storage.
